How to be a Puppy Parent

This week, Wendy Sunshine made an appearance on The Maria Liberati Show podcast to discuss her book, Tender Paws!

Released earlier this year, Tender Paws: How Science-Based Parenting Can Transform Our Relationship with Dogs details how one can develop their relationship with dogs using similar strategies as with kids.

Sunshine met her first dog when she found the pup abandoned at a gas station. The puppy was scared, unhealthy, and hard to get along with. Typical puppy training manuals proved to be no help. But, Sunshine had an idea; she wondered if using methods for bonding with at-risk children would be helpful. As it turned out, the answer was yes! Sunshine also reached out to experts and her her theory confirmed.

Sunshine’s book about her experiences also gives the reader tips for how to interact with and parent their dogs. It details: the separate fields of child development including attachment and trauma and much more, animal behavior, problem-saving framework, and parenting wisdom. So, check out Wendy Sunshine’s book for both a heartwarming story of a rescued puppy and for tips for how to develop your relationship with your own fur baby!
